What’s a street barrel organ? Where to
use a Crank Organ? How to use a roller organ ? Who use the grinder organ ?
Street barrel organs are traditional central European music instruments dating
as far back as the 17th century. They are real music instruments which do not
require any musical knowledge or skill to play and work without any electric
supply. The only power the instruments need is provided by the player’s turning
the hand crank.
On the streets, at home, to accompany your voice while singing or to
entertain friends at a party, a street barrel organ is your best companion!
No need to spend hours learning how to use it, the music pieces are recorded
on perforated cardboards or paper rolls. The sound is produced by air coming
through wooden or metal pipes. This air pressure delivered from the pump, as
well as the whole mechanism, is activated by the turning of the hand crank. Take
a look at our graphic at the end of this page to understand more about it!
